Field tile, ponds, and dirt work out of Brimfield, Illinois.

A field that sits wet costs you planting days every spring. AKW installs field tile on GPS grade, shapes waterways, digs and cleans ponds, and handles the dirt work in between. Fall tile season books in August.

What AKW does

Three kinds of work. One crew that shows up.

01

Farm drainage and field tile

Pattern tile, mains and laterals, waterway shaping and maintenance. Every run goes in on GPS grade, so the water moves the day the trench closes and the wet spot stops costing you yield.

02

Pond creation and maintenance

New ponds built to hold, and old ponds brought back. The long-reach excavator pulls silt and cattails from the water without tearing up the bank you want to keep.

03

Site prep and excavating

Basements, footings, final grade, culverts, driveways, clearing and forestry mulching. Dug square, graded to plan, ready for the next trade on schedule.

The part most contractors skip

GPS field tile install and mapping

Tile only works if the grade is right for the whole run. AKW installs with GPS machine control, which holds the planned grade foot by foot instead of trusting an eyeball and a laser pole. No bellies in the line, no backfall, no dead runs you find out about next spring.

Every job is also mapped as it goes in. You get an as-built record of where every main and lateral sits, how deep, and what size. When you repair a line in ten years, add a wet spot to the system, or sell the farm, that map is worth real money.

  1. Walk the ground. Find where the water sits, plan the runs and the outlet.
  2. Install on grade. GPS machine control holds the plan through the whole pull.
  3. Hand over the map. The as-built tile map is yours to keep, on paper and as a file.

Service area

Central Illinois farm country.

AKW works out of Brimfield and covers the ground around it: Elmwood, Farmington, Princeville, Hanna City, Yates City, Williamsfield, Kickapoo, and up to Dunlap and Peoria on the east side. Tile and pond jobs regularly run out to Eureka, Metamora and Washington across the river, and down to Canton, Knoxville and Galesburg on the west end.

If your ground sits in Peoria, Knox, Fulton, Stark or Woodford County, it is inside the normal working area. On the edge of that or just past it? Call anyway. For the right job the machines will travel.

About AKW

A family excavating outfit, not a fleet with a sales office.

New Cooper Husemann has recently stepped into an ownership role and is now AKW's estimator, working alongside Kevin and Michelle.

AKW Excavating started in 2014 with Kevin and Michelle Windish out of Brimfield, Illinois. Kevin has been in the excavating business for 30 plus years, long enough to have dug through most kinds of ground this part of the state can serve up.

When you call, you talk to the people who run the machines, not a dispatcher. The equipment in these photos is the equipment that shows up. Quotes come from walking your ground, not from a satellite photo, and the job is done when the water runs where it should.
